ASBESTOS ABATEMENT
Asbestos Abatement Certification at NWLETT
Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral fiber that can cause lung and other respiratory diseases when inhaled or ingested. Asbestos is known for its insulating and fireproofing properties and was used extensively in the construction industry before the negative health effects were commonly known.
By the late 1970’s, a dramatic decline began in the use of asbestos throughout industrialized
nations. By 2003, 17 countries enforce full or partial bans of the use of asbestos, however, asbestos remains a legal commodity in the United States although its use has declined considerably.
Because asbestos was routinely utilized in the manufacturing of common building materials, its removal is a major work area in the Environmental Remediation industry and many laborers have been and still are employed in this industry. Washington State requires asbestos workers must be trained, tested and certified in order to work in this industry.
