CESCL (EROSION CONTROL)

CESCL Certification Course at NWLETT

In Washington state, the Department of Ecology has a requirement. Staff who inspect and sample stormwater runoff at construction sites must obtain CESCL certification.

This two-day training course teaches students the latest methods for managing erosion and sediment at construction sites. The course includes classroom lessons and hands-on field exercises. The course has classroom lessons and practical field exercises.

It teaches how to choose and install erosion control materials. These materials include mats, blankets, check dams, bonded fiber matrix, and straw. The focus is on using the right materials for different site conditions.

The Washington State Department of Ecology (DOE) has approved this class. It meets the training requirements for Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead. Participants completing this class will receive certification as erosion and sediment control leads for the Washington Department of Ecology.

The Washington Department of Ecology requires a trained person to manage stormwater at construction sites. This applies to sites that disturb over an acre of land. The trained person must inspect and install stormwater controls on the site.

Most companies will need more than one employee trained as a CESCL. Certification is good for three years.

COURSE

CESCL (EROSION CONTROL) – 16 HOURS / 2 DAYS

A certified Washington DOT instructor teaches this course. They explain how to design and implement Temporary Erosion and Sediment Control (TESC) plans.

The course includes practical examples, WDOT case studies, and hands-on fieldwork. These elements show the best ways to install, maintain, inspect, and remove temporary erosion and sediment controls.

Upon completion, students will be able to:

  • Understand and implement the TESC
  • Direct the proper installation, inspection, maintenance, and removal of erosion and sediment control BMPs
  • Communicate effectively with WSDOT construction personnel, sub-contractors, grading inspectors, and resource energy personnel regarding erosion and sediment control
  • Collaborate with the listed staff to recommend changes to TESC plans. These changes should help meet WSDOT erosion and sediment control rules.
  • You will receive certification after completing a 25-question test with a score of 80% or higher. Certification is valid for three years.
